Once upon a time, Abram.
That’s pretty much how God begins the story if the people of Israel which defines the entire Bible. Genesis, which means “beginning,” is the foundation, written by Moses. If we miss what happens here, we will miss what the rest of the Bible is about.
The Living Room Bible started with my telling the boys about Abraham. And then saying, “Wait, here, let’s read it so you can see for yourself.” And we read the end of Gen 11 and all of Genesis 12. Then we read Genesis 13 the next day and then Genesis 14. Every day, we just kept reading. This turned into tradition and our daily “Bible story” in home education. We’ve now read and studied this way through the whole story of Israel.
BUT I didn’t think of recording these stories until we reached Deuteronomy. So this story-study of Genesis is teaching as if my boys and you, listener, are in the room. Same format. Same insights. Same stories… but without the boys presence in the recording. Genesis 1-11 isn’t included here. Why? Because Moses wrote them. And I wanted my boys to get to know Moses first so that we can better understand what Moses meant when we read those opening chapters. Don’t worry–they’ll be included in a later audio-story in the same order we did it in our living room.
Genesis is included in the Living Room Bible – Complete Library as a monthy subscription. I highly recommend listening that way. But if you’d like to do a one-time purchase of it and to support my work, you can also do that. Choose from the buttons below.
