Ruth is not a Jew (a daughter of Israel). She married one while her husband was visiting her country of Moab. But he died. So did her father-in-law. Alone with her mother-in-law, she traveled to Israel to make Israel’s God and his people her own.
She met a man. And you won’t believe this, but he was not only kin but (little known fact), the son of Rahab. Yeah, that Rahab that sheltered Joshua and Caleb before the great battle of Jericho (not really a battle… mostly a marching band that God used to bring the city to dust).
You’ll have to hear it to believe it. While so much change is happening all around them in the time of the Judges, God makes a way for these two in four short chapters.
Oh, couple more details… Boaz and Ruth are the great-grandparents of King David. That makes them the grandparents (fourteen generations) of Jesus.
You never know how God will steer a story for what happens in His Story later.
Ruth is included in the Living Room Bible – Complete Library as a monthy subscription. I highly recommend listening that way. But if you’d like to do a one-time purchase of Ruth and to support my work, you can also do that. Choose from the buttons below.
